“Coaching is a safe and courageous partnership between the coach and client to create growth and progress towards the client’s goals.”
Source: International Coaching Federation
Many people think of a Sports Coach, judgmentally yelling from the sidelines, Knowing Best, and telling you what to do – but the coaching I practice is the opposite of that.
Coaching is about change. It’s a process over time since change may be scary and trigger internal resistance. I don’t tell my clients what to do. I’m a thinking partner who helps them notice and challenge their old patterns, discover their values and strengths, and create motivating strategies to courageously stretch out of their comfort zone and into their growth zone.

It is an evidence-based practice with a series of competencies. The work we do in our coaching sessions is important, often transformative, but success will depend on what the client takes out into their world. I ask powerful questions, offers observations, and supportively challenge clients in service of their goals. Together, we will define the outcome you want, explore the choices you have, actions you can take, and devise meaningful plans to support you as you commit to those actions. We will create ways for you to hold yourself accountable for the commitments you choose.
Coaching is easier to demonstrate than describe. I’d be happy to give you a sense of what it’s like in a free conversation. Schedule a free conversation with me here.

Both are confidential conversations with a trained professional. Emotions show up and are welcome. But coaching is future focused, with specific goals. It is an equal, not a therapeutic, partnership, based on the client being resourceful, capable, and creative. The past may come up but is not ‘excavated’.
A coach may suggest therapy if a client cannot move past something and is stuck beyond what coaching can accomplish. Some of my clients have a therapist as well as partnering with me on their professional growth goals.

There are plenty of coaches - even seasoned, well trained, ICF certified coaches like me. How do you choose?
If you value polished formality - that’s not me. My pandemic hobby was chickens…
I’m thoroughly professional : credentials, quality, commitment, integrity, process and tools, but warmly informal and unshockable. There will be laughter.
My clients say I’m warm, encouraging, perceptive, wise, curious, challenging, invested.
I’m not a ‘ life coach’ – my focus is people’s professional lives.
We are 'whole people' so family members and friends may come up in the coaching sometimes and that's OK. Our patterns show up outside of work too.
I work with individuals, from first time manager to Founder, COO to developer. And I work with teams. Many of my clients work in creative, marketing or adjacent industries.

The ICF Code of Ethics requires I ask permission and am explicit when stepping into Consulting mode. That’s quick and clients barely notice, but ethically it’s important that I’m intentional about it. I’m happy to share my experience, expertise and offer resources that can help my clients. For example, at a team offsite I may move (with permission) between Facilitating, Consulting and Coaching, including some teach pieces.

I customize by client. Typically, a session is 60 -75 minutes. I’m flexible, depending on clients’ preferences. Sometimes only 45 minutes is needed. The Foundation stage starts with a 2 hour Kick Off session, plus a 90-minute session. I’m willing to customize according to what fits the client best.

My rates vary depending on if the coaching is funded by an employer or not, and if the client is employed. Higher rates for some subsidize opportunity for those between engagements. My rates are at the lower end of the range for ICF certified coaches. Click here to book a conversation to find out more.

Team coaching focuses on the team dynamics. Highly effective teams take time to do this work . A team is a group of people who have interdependent goals. Regardless of reporting structure, the goals require contributions from everyone on the team. The goals/results will be impacted by how well the team collaborates : for example: clarity, trust, accountability, communication & ability to have healthy conflict.
Group coaching is when a small number of people choose to work on a growth goal for themselves. It is individual work, done in a group setting.
